Diocese of North America of the Mar Thoma Church

The Mar Thoma Church has been dynamically involved in the socio-cultural settings of North America for over four decades. Fundamentally an immigrant Church, she has contextualized her ministry in her new life situation without compromising the rich ethos and traditions received from her motherland of Kerala, India. The Diocese of North America, one of the thirteen dioceses of the Mar Thoma Church, is comprised of the Mar Thoma parishes and congregations in North America. Though there were Mar Thoma members and worship services in the area from the seventies, the parishes were coordinated as a Zone in 1980, and the Diocese was established on January 1, 1988.

The Diocese is presided by the Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Mar Paulos Episcopa, and is governed by the Diocesan Assembly constituted by the representatives from the parishes. Rev. George Abraham serves as the Diocesan Secretary, and Mr. George P. Babu serves as the Diocesan Treasurer. The Diocesan Council functions as the Executive Committee of the Diocese. Currently, there are 68 parishes and 13 congregations in the Diocese with 80 clergy, including active, retired, and students.
